# Aluminum Branch Wiring

Aluminum branch wiring is aluminum conductor wiring used in branch circuits, mostly in buildings from the 1960s and early 1970s, that can overheat at connections to receptacles, switches and appliances.

## Why it matters

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission found that homes wired with aluminum before 1972 were far more likely to have connections reach fire hazard conditions. Repairs use approved connectors and methods. An electrician should evaluate any building with this wiring.
