# Asbestos-Containing Material (ACM)

Asbestos-containing material is any building product that contains asbestos, a mineral fiber that occurs naturally in rock and soil and was used for insulation and fire resistance.

## Why it matters

Older commercial buildings may have asbestos in insulation, flooring, roofing and other materials. Disturbing it during renovation can release fibers and trigger regulatory duties. A limited asbestos survey is a separate service from a standard PCA or Phase I.
