# Expected Useful Life (EUL)

Expected useful life is the average number of years a building system or component is estimated to function without material repair when installed new and properly maintained.

## Why it matters

EUL is the baseline against which remaining useful life is judged. HUD's CNA e-Tool uses an estimated useful life table for components. Standard tables are a starting point, not a prediction for a specific building.
