# Mold

Mold is a fungus that grows indoors where moisture is present, spreading by spores and growing on building materials such as drywall, wood and ceiling tiles.

## Why it matters

Mold points to a moisture problem that must be found and fixed, such as a roof leak or poor drainage. Cleaning the surface without stopping the water source brings it back. Moisture mapping and infrared tools can help locate the source.
