Data Gap

A data gap is a lack of, or inability to obtain, information required by the all appropriate inquiries standards despite good faith efforts by the environmental professional to gather it.

Why it matters

Missing records, denied access or unavailable interviews can create data gaps. The report should say whether a gap is significant to the conclusions. Large gaps can reduce confidence in the Phase I and may call for added steps.
