Due Diligence Period

The due diligence period is the window after a purchase agreement is signed in which a buyer inspects the property and reviews records, and usually may renegotiate or terminate if problems appear.

Why it matters

Length and terms vary by contract, often a few weeks to a few months. Inspections, environmental reports and financing reviews must fit inside it. Order reports as soon as the contract is signed.
