Infrared Thermography

Infrared thermography uses an infrared camera to show surface temperature differences, which inspectors use to find missing insulation and other thermal anomalies that may indicate moisture or air leakage.

Why it matters

Thermography is a screening tool. ASTM C1060 notes that proof of missing insulation or a malfunctioning envelope needs independent validation, such as visual checks or moisture readings. Conditions like temperature difference and weather affect results.
