Ponding Water

Ponding water is water that remains on a roof surface for 48 hours or longer after rainfall, often because of low spots, poor drainage or deflection of the roof structure.

Why it matters

Standing water adds weight, speeds membrane aging and can void roof warranties. Inspectors note ponding on low-slope roofs and look for causes such as clogged drains or sagging decks. Fixes range from drain cleaning to tapered insulation.
