Lead-Based Paint (LBP)

Lead-based paint is paint containing lead, a toxic metal that harms health when inhaled or swallowed, commonly found in buildings constructed before 1978.

Why it matters

Federal rules apply to housing built before 1978, and multifamily assets are screened for it in many HUD and lender reports. Renovation work in older buildings can disturb lead paint. Plan for testing and safe work practices in repair budgets.
