Sewer Lateral

A sewer lateral is the private pipe that connects a building's plumbing to the public sewer system, usually owned and maintained by the property owner.

Why it matters

Cracks, root intrusion, bellies and collapses in laterals can cause backups and costly excavation. A camera inspection shows pipe condition without digging. Buyers often order one for older buildings and restaurants.
